5Cs to remember when looking for job

Hey everyone,
A very good evening. Wish every thing is getting better in all parts of world.

“5 Cs to remember when looking for a job/job change”, I decided to write this post thinking it might be helpful to someone.

In this pandemic many people have lost their jobs and struggling to find another. Many fresh graduates are finding it hard to get even internships, their job offers has been delayed or canceled.

I have came across few people who are looking for job since 5-6 months but not getting any calls. And at same time we see few people getting good offers/better roles and even higher pays( >100% increments as well). So how is it happening?

Outside factors (like the pandemic) are not in our control but based on my personal experience and knowledge of the industry(vastly in IT sector) I came up with some important factors (I call them as 5 Cs to for every job seeker) that are must to be consider when looking for job/job change. Here I have listed out some of them. Let’s dive on them now.

1. Curriculum vitae (CV): This is foremost. If your CV doesn’t get short listed, no further process comes in picture. Now a days almost all companies shortlist CVs using automated tools based on some specific keywords. Knowing them and updating your CV appropriately is important. These keywords can be categorized in two parts (a) skills (b) Others.

Skills depend on what role you are looking for, not much to say on that. You need to understand the 2nd category, these makes the difference (only when you do have relevant skill). e.g. Recognized, Succeeded, Headed, Organized, Boosted, Transformed, Implemented, Conducted, Agile etc.

2. Concept: Once your CV/resume is selected. Clarity of concepts of technology/field you are working in or applying for is second in line to consider. Googling interview questions and preparing only specific set of things aren’t much helpful anymore, recruiters are smart now you need to be smarter. You may not know everything about something(it is common) but you must know what you know, what you don’t know, and what you need to know.  Never go unprepared.

3. Creativity: This goes hand in hand with the second point that I talked about. You need to be creative with your ways and answers during interviews, more than ever, you will face questions on – “how will you …..?” Or, “what will you do if …. ?”
And that’s when creativity comes in picture, but remember, if you are not clear with basic concepts, methods, environment and cultures, you may find your self struck. You need to be creative to give solutions with out losing the realistic ground.

Also, a little creativity in the resume is must to make your resume attractive and pass through the automated filtering tools.

4. Confidence: Confidence is the key. How you face tricky situations, are you confident with your answers/solutions? do you believe in what you answered (say during interview)?
Any interviewer will easily catch if you have it in you or just hitting around the bush. A person who is not confident on himself/herself, no company would want them. No one follows an underconfident person, let it be life or job.

5. Communication: Say you have all of the above, but you are not able to communicate your ideas/thoughts/skills effectively then what will happen ? You guessed it, you won’t get selected. Interviewers are also humans, they don’t have super power to get into your mind or do some magic to know about you. You have to convey and convince them that you are a good fit. Thus, Communication skills are important.

note-> It is not something you can study prepare overnight. You need to give yourself time and work on it every day. So, the earlier you start the better it will be.

End Note: There are many other factors that needs to be considered, but above, according to me are the things that makes the difference most of the time. And obviously, for anything to help (except a special luck may be), you need to prepare and have the relevant skills.

You may have different thoughts. Feel free to comment them.. It may will be helpful to someone in need.
