Read part 6: Confusion grows more

Read part 1 – Those five minutes

Earlier that day; At hospital:

Vijay parents had arrived. His maternal uncle and younger brother had accompanied them. Vijay’s mother started crying as soon as she saw her son lying in that hospital bed, Abhi and Aman both tried to persuade her but of no help. His brother took her out of the room. Abhi explained all that has happened since last night. He all medical reports, prescriptions to Vijay’s uncle and explained whatever was important.
After around 30 minutes Aman signaled Abhi that they should leave now.
“Doctor would come again in an hour. I think we should wait to hear what he says.”  Said Abhi.

“It’s okay, you can call them and get updated. You have done your part now let his family handle it. It’s almost sundown now, let us leave.” Argued Aman.

Abhi too wanted to get out of here. He introduced Vijay uncle and father with the nurse who was assigned to Vijay, informed them about the doctors expected visit, gave police inspector’s contact number to his uncle, and asked to get in touch. Then both of them took their leave. On the way back he called the inspector to inform him about Vijay’s parents.

Aman decided to stay at Abhi’s room in hostel for tonight. He used to stay back frequently so it was okay.

~11:20 pm at Night:

Aman was lying on one side of Abhi’s bed, with a novel from Vijay’s collection in his hand, when his phone beeped.  He was too mentally tired and was just relaxing his mind through the pages. The event from morning has completely skipped his mind, at least till now. He looked at his phone – the screen flashed notifying about two received messages and her name.

Everything from today morning came back to him. So much for a normal day. Anyways he closed the book and grabbed his phone. A smile ran on his face even before he opened the messages to read.

Hi.”
“Der?”

Read the messages. She always writes ‘der’ instead ‘there’.

“Hey”
“Yes”
Aman quickly typed.

“You fine?”

Came next messages after five minutes. She was filtering her thoughts, balancing her
words, deciding what to say and what not to.

“Yes. I am fine. I am staying with Abhi today.”
“How about you? Still awake! Its quite late for you!!”

The clocked ticked 11:30 as he pressed the send button.

“Ha. Not getting sleep.”
“How is Vijay?”

“Still unconscious, doctors said he is critical. Just hoping he survives.”

“Okay. you okay right? And Abhi, how is he doing?”

“Yes, I am fine. 😊” He smiled.
“Abhi is okay too. been hard day for him.”

“Hmm.”

Aman had already started imagining and planning what he is going to do next. What the novel couldn’t do in last 1 hour or so , few texts from her did. Vijay, hospital everything was out of his mind. He was calm, feeling better and focused (on her) . He recalled their discussion earlier today. He felt both relaxed and tensed. Relaxed cause he finally told her how he feels and tensed cause they couldn’t complete the talk he was wary of what will happen now. Definitely it wasn’t a good way to propose your girl. He couldn’t even get her reply. For instance, he thought of calling her and resuming the discussion that was interrupted earlier but his instinct stopped him. It wasn’t the right time and definitely not the right way. He didn’t want to make it more weird. The unexpected way it all happened, and he reveled his love after all these years, he will make for it.  He looked at the phone, it was more than 10 minutes, there was no further texts from her. He decided he would meet her tomorrow and talk. May be take a present for her!

“See you tomorrow.” He replied.

What will she say? What gift shall I take? How shall I tell her?
